A recent survey (count) by the Wildlife Division revealed that there are 6200 moose in Lewisporte Moose Management Area 22. On the island of Newfoundland, there are an estimated 120,000 moose.

A few years age Safari Club International established a separate category for eastern Canada moose. Trophies from Newfoundland dominate this category and current data indicates that spreads from the mid-40's to mid-50's aren't all that uncommon. Spreads from mid-50's to 60 inches are more rare but several are taken annually.

A two-week bow hunting only season precedes the regular season. The regular season runs from the 2nd Saturday in September to the 1st Saturday in December.
